Any tax-exempt organization can apply to host Standing Down. Veteran-Serving Organizations (VSOS) are preferred. Non-VSOs, such as libraries, community centers, or religious organizations are encouraged to apply to host this program, but must be able to demonstrate in their application how they plan to gather a group of 10-15 veterans to take part in the program. The hosting site will coordinate with existing veterans within their community and make the program available. The host site will ideally demonstrate the ability to gather and retain a group of veterans to participate in the program. Interested host organizations must apply on the Council’s website. Application is easy to use and does not require much time to complete.

Host organizations should identify a local scholar to facilitate their series and commit, as well as designate a host-site coordinator on the staff to handle all logistical aspects of implementing the program. The

New Mexico Humanities Council directly pays the scholar-facilitator an honorarium per session; host organizations will be provided the books to host the program.
