ELLEN DORNAN

NHD Coordinator & Digital Humanities Program Officer

Ellen Dornan serves as the National History Day Coordinator and the Digital Humanities Program Officer. Ms. Dornan has worked with the Council since 2001, serving as webmaster, NHD judge and junior division coach, and a scholar on grant projects and the Centennial Online Atlas of Historic New Mexico Maps. She joined as full-time staff in January 2016.

Ms. Dornan holds a BA from St. Johns College and an MA in Instructional Technology from the University of New Mexico. Prior to joining the Council, she worked with the Department of Interior, the Department of Justice, the Department of Agriculture, National Geographic, and many others to create digital-born interpretive and educational products and programs in the areas of history, Indian law, and natural history. She has been recognized by the National Association for Interpretation for innovation in the field. Her two books, Forgotten Tales of New Mexico and Wicked Taos are available from The History Press. She still thinks the funny parts of history are the best.
