Registration for the National contest will be open until May 16, 2017 at 11:59 pm.

1st payment for National contest due May 5, 2017.

2nd payment for National contest due June 2, 2017.

Who Must Register

• Competing students

• Parents of competing students (Parent and family member accounts are established within the competing student’s registration account; they do not need to create a separate account.)

• Teachers who are attending the contest OR who are submitting payment for their students from their school

• Participants who want to sign up for on-campus housing

Friday June 9

Please contact the NMHC if you are a student or chaperone in need of lodging near the airport.

Saturday June 10

Meet at Abq International Sunport 4:00 AM

Depart 6:00 AM Southwest Flight 4359

Arrive BWI 11:45 AM ET

Travel by shuttle bus to U-MD dorms; Jason's Deli in College Park, MD for lunch, dinner on meal plan

Monuments at Night

Students and chaperones will take public transportation to the National Mall

Sunday June 11

Registration check-in 8 AM - 9 AM

Junior contest 8 am - 4 pm

Chaperone's choice for Senior participants

Tuesday June 13

Senior contest 8 am - 4 pm

5 pm - 10 pm Junior performance and documentary finals

8:30 - 12:30 pm Senior performance and documentary finals

9 am - 7:00 pm public viewing of exhibits

5 pm - 7:30 pm National History Night at the National Museum of American History

NHD night at the Braves vs Cubs baseball game ($365 extra, includes $10 food voucher) -- public transportation

4 pm - 10 pm (game starts at 7:05 pm; activities at the park beforehand)

Eat dinner out near the Kennedy Center

Curtain at 7:30


US Army Band, Sylvan Theater in front of the Washington Monument, 8:00 pm (free!!)

Thursday June 15

Awards Ceremony 8:30 - noon

noon - 1 pm -- pick up certificates, exhibits, pack up

1:15 pm depart for Baltimore Inner Harbor (shuttle bus)

2:00 pm - 4 pm Explore Historic Ships

5 pm - 6 pm dinner in Inner Harbor

Shuttle bus to BWI

Southwest Flight 5594 dep BWI 8:20 pm

return to Albuquerque International Sunport 10:30 pm

Parent Accommodations & Travel

Parents are welcome to travel and attend the contest. Unfortunately, we have no extra room with our delegation. All students traveling with our delegation must participate in all delegation activities. If you want to do activities with your children, plan to travel separately from the delegation.

You are welcome to sign up for a dorm package at registration and stay in the same area as our delegation; the full package for June 10- 15 is $445. Please find a link to the full list of available packages below.

Paper & Website Entries

Paper Entries

You will submit your paper electronically by uploading the document to our server within registration (see link below for instructions). You must also send four copies of your paper and bibliography via U.S. Mail or other delivery service. Both electronic and paper submissions must be received in the NHD office no later than May 16, 2017 at 11:59 pm. Make sure you get a tracking number and confirmation information from your delivery service, as the NHD staff is small and cannot research the delivery of packages. Website Entries

NO paperwork is needed, as your process paper and annotated bibliography must be integrated into your site. Be sure to include your unique 8-digit portion of your web site URL in the "Entry Information" section during online registration. PLEASE NOTE: Website entries will be locked for judging at 12:00 am on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Be sure to complete and publish your website before this time.
